We’ve loved celebrating the creativity and musical talent of nonspeaking songwriters through Boards & Chords—but we’re no longer running this particular event.
Boards & Chords was a virtual music festival that celebrated and showcased the incredible musical talent of nonspeaking songwriters from around the globe. Created to highlight the creativity of spellers and typers who compose music and lyrics, this free online concert brought together heart-stopping tunes, toe-tapping rhythms, and a joyful sense of community. With multiple showtimes designed to reach participants across time zones, Boards & Chords opened the stage to nonspeakers everywhere in the Spellerverse. Whether performing original songs or cheering from home with family and friends, participants joined in a global celebration of music, connection, and expression.
The spirit of Boards & Chords lives on in the Neurolyrical Café, where nonspeakers from around the world gather each month to share original writing, collaborate on group poems, and celebrate each other’s voices. It’s a welcoming, creative space that continues the same energy of expression and community that made Boards & Chords so special.
Check out past performances below and join us for the next Neurolyrical Café and keep the music of our words alive!
We are thankful to Unrestricted Interest, our yearly Boards & Chords Co-Host. Unrestricted Interest is devoted to neurodivergent listening, learning, and languaging and moves against the notion that creative life should be normalized under neurotypical demands and that writing flourishes in all directions, as do lives. They gather with neurodivergent writers to explore writing practices in their own way, at their own pace. They are also our partner in Neurolyrical Cafe held every month.
Calling all nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking individuals, it’s time to submit your ideas for Boards & Chords 2024! Please fill out the form to the right with your submission information. We can’t wait to see what fabulous ideas you’re bringing this year!
