Celebrating 7 Years
Advancing communication access for nonspeakers
7 Years Strong
Over the past seven years, I-ASC has grown from a small network of dedicated families and practitioners in a handful of states and three countries into a global community of Nonspeakers, families, practitioners, advocates, and researchers spanning 45 states and 31 countries.
We are proud of how far we have come, but even more committed to the work ahead.
Today, with hundreds of practitioners worldwide, a growing library of educational resources, and more people learning about Spelling to Communicate (S2C), the demand for access, training, and support continues to grow. In many ways, the success of these first seven years has shown us just how much more there is to do.
As we enter our eighth year, we invite you to help us meet that need.
In honor of I-ASC’s anniversary and Apraxia Awareness Month, we’re hosting a month-long celebration with several ways to get involved.
I-ASC provides the nonspeaking community with resources, education, and research. Find free online S2C lessons in English and Spanish, motoriety hacks, as well as books we recommend, videos, articles, and websites both by and for nonspeakers to instruct, inform and support spellers, their families, and friends in their quest for information.
We also offer events, webinars, and conferences throughout the year to showcase and celebrate the talents of the nonspeaking community. Join us to create meaningful connections throughout the neurodiverse community, develop best practices, advocate, and learn about the latest research.
Communication is a fundamental right. With considerable financial obstacles for families, we don’t want finances to be a barrier to accessing communication. In 2021 we created the Speller Access Fund , which helps new spellers who need financial assistance to afford S2C sessions with a Certified S2C Practitioner. Qualified new spellers receive a complete set of stencil letterboards, two workbooks, and vouchers for five sessions with a Certified S2C Practitioner participating in the Speller Access Fund Program.
With more than 30 million nonspeakers worldwide, the demand for S2C practitioners outweighs the supply. I-ASC is dedicated to expanding this network so that more families can access communication, so we have the scholarship fund to assist those with financial needs to take the training. For every $100 in scholarship money received, the practitioner must provide one free session to a nonspeaker in need in their area after graduation.
