Logan, a 22-year-old speller, first started on the boards four years ago with ambitions to change the world’s thoughts about nonspeaking people. After the daunting challenge of fighting stereotypes and doubters, his tenacity and perseverance in continuing his advocacy have aptly led to his nomination as a Dauntless Spellebrity. I was lucky to meet with Logan and his CRP/mom to talk about his thoughts on himself and the speller verse at large.

You were nominated in the category of “dauntless”-how do you feel about that description?

I’M WILLING. I AM DAUNTLESS.

I love that. Let’s talk about what spellers offer: what is the biggest unsung contribution you think spellers bring to the world?

PERSONAL AUTONOMY. IT’S THE BIGGEST ISSUE.

How can you give back to the spellerverse?

BY BEING AN ADVOCATE OR ACTIVIST.

It seems you are rising to that challenge! In addition to being an activist for the nonspeaking community, what’s something you want others to know about you?

THAT I AM INTELLIGENT. I WANT TO GO TO UNIVERSITY.

Fantastic! What would you want to study?

POLITICS, RELIGION, HISTORY

That’s awesome! Have you settled on a favorite part of history at this stage or are you still exploring?

WAR, I JUST REALLY LIKE THE STRATEGY, POWER, AND PSYCHOLOGY IN WAR FACTS. I’M REALLY LIKING THE BOOK I’M READING NOW – “The Race to Build and Steal the World’s Most Dangerous”

Speaking of books, if your life was a book, what would the title be?

What superpower would you choose to have and why?

I WOULD BE ABLE TO FLY, TO GO TO MEXICO.

If you could compare spelling to something that requires precision skills for neurotypical people, what would that be?

GOLFING

Love that example. One last question before we go: What is your wish for the nonspeaking community?

TO BE HEARD. I THINK WE HAVE A LOT TO SHARE.

Described by his siblings as wise, extraordinary, and empowering. “He is intelligent, thoughtful, and has a good sense of humor.” Logan’s brother said Logan is far too wise for his age and helps him to understand life from a more balanced perspective. Logan takes great pride in his humility. He has a girlfriend, he met at a spelling social gathering and has been surfing.
